This is getting to be something that could have come straight from the pages of 1984...

Anti-social neighbours can be "convicted" without any actual legal process and on the basis of hearsay evidence such as the local nosey neighbour who keeps a diary of your movements and "transgressions".

Now people who are "convicted" under these ridiculous terms can be removed from their homes (as we told you HERE) and locked in "secure communities" and must undergo a process of "rehabilitation" before their benefit payments are restored.

Firstly, what makes the government assume that the "neighbours from hell" will all be on benefits? I have to be honest and say that I have NEVER had a "neighbour from hell" but I do know somebody that did and they lived in one of the more expensive areas of leafy Bedfordshire and their neighbours were very wealthy indeed. They used to have parties at an alarming rate which would roll on until the early hours of the next morning and would sometimes even include a live band in a MARQUEE!!!

When my friend had the "cheek" to point out that he had to get up early one morning and asked them to wind down or stop one particular party he had a tray of food thrown at him.

The next morning he returned from his early engagement to find that his greenhouse and pond were also now covered in food so he called the local police who told him that they would be there as soon as they could...

Despite repeated requests for police attendance that was 7 years ago and they still haven't turned up!

My point is not that people who are wealthy are more likely to be anti-social, my point is that the law is being sold to people as though it will only target a specific area of the community that most people have been brainwashed into thinking are bad people when, in reality, this law will stand for EVERYBODY.

They did the same thing with the Youth Dispersal Zones. The public supported the idea that children should be told where they could go and what time they could be out of the house. Of course they did, they were convinced that children were the Devil himself and they must all be controlled or the world would cease to exist.

The very same people are not so impressed when their entire neighbourhood comes under a curfew action and THEY aren't allowed out after 9pm though!

When you submit to the introduction of a law that requires you to believe that it is for a specific section of the community don't stop and think about how great it would be to target those people...Think about how the law cannot possibly be written in such a way as to ONLY target a section of the community and realise that the unemployed targets of today are the ANYBODY of tomorrow.

Most frightening is the lack of information being made available regarding what is going to happen during this unspecified "rehabilitation" process?

My heart races at the terrifying possibilities.

The Ministry of Love anybody?!??!

Don't let them do this...Write to your MP by clicking HERE and tell them that you think that this legislation is Draconian, Orwellian and just plain unnecessary and as a constituent you urge you MP to vote against any such thing...

Let us know if you receive a reply!

Nuisance neighbours could face benefit cuts in a new crackdown on anti-social behaviour, the Government has announced.

Work and Pensions Secretary John Hutton said people evicted from their homes for anti-social conduct will have their housing benefit "sanctioned" unless they undergo rehabilitation.

Ministers are to introduce legislation "as soon as is practicable", with the first pilot schemes up and running during 2008.

Mr Hutton said: "Communities are fed-up of the disruption caused by people who show no respect for their neighbours.

"The threat of sanctioning housing benefit will send a clear signal to the handful of people evicted each year for anti-social behaviour that they must address their problem behaviour and engage in rehabilitation.

"It is not right that people who get evicted should be able simply to move to another area and continue their bad behaviour. These anti-social neighbours must realise they have reached the end of the line.

"The right to housing benefit must and will carry a responsibility to be a decent neighbour."
